在現代風光下的愛丁堡講述了Kate Atkinson的懸疑小說裏的謎案和男主角Jackson Brodie的掙紮。
私家偵探Jackson Brodie(Jason Isaacs飾演)參過軍也是前任警察，表麵剛強但心思縝密。他年幼的時候失去了姐姐，而一直以來為他未曾停止追尋姐姐死去的真相；因此他總是很難拒絕一些失去親人的人們的求助。他接手了三宗案件，而這些案件都頗有年月，他要走向真相，首先要在黑暗裏遊走，受害人家庭裏暗藏多年的秘密，和一些不為人知的利害關係都要被他一一揭穿。
