項少龍（張家輝 飾）是一名房地產經紀人，和相戀多年的女友求婚之時，女友竟然嫌棄項少龍拿出的婚房麵積太小，聲稱不購入豪宅便休想結婚，為了娶到心愛的女人，囊中羞澀的項少龍想破了腦袋卻也找不到解決問題的辦法。
就在這個節骨眼上，一幢名為“天下無雙”的豪華別墅低價開賣，憑借著敏感的職業直覺，項少龍從中發現了商機，他找來了金鳳（鄭秀文 飾）、阿黑（楊穎 飾）和瓦力（歐豪 飾），四人共同分擔房款，盤下了別墅，隻待炒高房價便可出手大賺一筆，可是，就在此時，政府開始打壓樓市，無奈之下，項少龍一行人隻得先行入住，一個奇特的“臨時家庭”就此組成。
