皮庫（迪皮卡·帕度柯妮 Deepika Padukone 飾）是一名女建築師，在職場中非常精明強幹的她生活裏也是獨立自主的新興女性。母親過世後，皮庫不忍心看到父親落單，於是照顧和陪伴父親的責任就全部落在了她的肩上。然而，孤獨的生活和喪妻的悲痛讓父親的性格變得越來越古怪，父女之間的隔閡漸漸變深，矛盾一觸即發。
父女兩人在加爾各答有一處房產，房產中介企圖說服皮庫的父親將這處房產賣掉。老父親不但拒絕了中介的建議，還要求女兒驅車帶他前往加爾各答，就這樣，父女兩人上路了。途中，他們還遇見了出租車旅遊公司的老板拉納（伊爾凡·可汗 Irrfan Khan 飾）。
